Can You Say, "Cheese" ?

This past weekend our family celebrated the 60th Wedding Anniversary of my husband's parents.  All the children and their children attended the three-day event.  Needless to say it was fun and exhausting and a great joy to spend some quality time with the family as well as Bob and Mary Lu's closest friends.  For two of the nights, we hired a professional photographer to capture all the wonderful moments for us.

Now, I am known for taking the worst pictures in the world.  It has been a big family joke for as long as I can remember.  I have bought great joy and laughter to my children through my my uncanny skills in turning a perfectly normal picture into a major debacle.  (You are welcome!)

This weekend was no exception.  I thought I might share with you some of the special pictures from the weekend's events before I permanently delete them from the thumb drive.  But, I must tell you, there were some really strange things happening at these events and I think you would have made these types of expressions, too, if you had been in my shoes.  Take for example, at the dinner we held in my backyard (in case you cannot figure out which one I am,,,,I am unfortunately not the adorable woman with the dark brown hair and sweet smile.....I'm in the white top):

Everyone was having a really nice time but there was this one guest at the end of table that couldn't keep his big mouth shut.....I was trying to get his attention and show my displeasure:

After awhile, he calmed down, thank goodness.  And I couldn't believe that President Obama showed up for another one of his backyard chats. Did he really have to wear that stupid-looking hat?

For dessert, we had a delicious cake made by Tammie Coe Cakes but when the server asked if I wanted a fourth piece of cake, I had to look disgusted and say NO, like I had never eaten four pieces of cake in one sitting!  Right?!

I could go on and on and on!  One after the other.  It's comical how bad these photos can be.  I think out of the 280-some pictures he took that weekend, one or two are okay.

It's a funny thing about photographs.  Some models are just okay looking but take amazing photographs.  Some people always seem to have red eyes in photographs, some people look relaxed, and some people look seriously deranged in their photos.  Well, for all those people in that last category (LIKE ME), be kind to us.  We are trying to look good.  We don't want to mess up each and every family shot.  It just happens.

To Be a Human

With the coal miners being lifted out of the mine one by one this morning, I feel just everyone else in the world.....happy to be alive and apart of this grand old world we live in.  I am celebrating with a bowl of Starbucks Mocha frappachino ice cream.

I had to turn off the television for a little while because the news coverage on CNN was driving me crazy.  If I heard one more time from the giddy newscaster that "this is the kind of news event they were really good at reporting", I was going to be sick to my stomach.  Stop telling us how good you are and just be good at what you do, okay?! And another thing, we will be perfectly alright if in between each rescue you don't fill every second with coverage of one state's political debate.  I think they are salivating for tonight's Delaware debate because they are thinking that Christine's 'going to have a Sarah moment'.....if you know what I mean.  How can we be so wonderful in our thoughts and prayers for 33 miners and so despicable in our thoughts with one political candidate?  I guess that's human nature.

I am also focusing my attention on the 6 or 7 Americans who have died today in Afghanistan...or is it Iraq?  It was mentioned so quickly on the news that I missed it.  But I am sure the Mothers of these children know exactly where the deaths occurred.  Well, I thank these soldiers for fighting for us and giving up their lives for us, even if I cannot hear the gory details.  I pray for their families.  Perhaps a second bowl of ice cream is called for...........

We are bombarded with so much news each day that it's hard to process every important detail. The human mind can only process so much.  I don't know about you, but a feel a little overwhelmed by today's barrage of news today.  I am hoping for a very slow news day tomorrow...

Hiding From the Jury Duty Police

PET scan of a human brain with Alzheimer's diseaseImage via Wikipedia
During my daily phone conversation with my sister, I kind of blurt out that I forgot to dress in my pearls and head down to the court on the day my jury duty was supposed to start, and start my very unoriginal rant about how I think all men are zombies in disguise and need to be disposed of for the good of all womanhood.

June: "OMG, Beth.  That is very bad.  You do know they can come to your door and arrest you, right?"

Me: "Yeah, so."

June: "So, you need to get this fixed.  You need to call them so you're not in trouble."

Me: "What should I say....that my Alzheimer's is getting worse...and it completely passed my mind?' (which is really the truth......and yes, that is a pet scan of the Alzheimer's disease that Zemanta thought I should add to this post for your pleasure!  You're welcome.)

June: "This is serious...hang up this phone and take care of this right now."

The whole conversation made me very hungry, so I head to the candy table and proceed to eat all the Halloween candy in my path.

Why can't they just leave me alone!

So, I guess that Monday, I will don my pearls and head down to the court to please insanity.  But, I think it would be best to leave such important matters to people who are interested in this sort of thing.  I would be......
                                        too opinionated

too bored to sit that long with texting or tweeting

People's lives are at stake and the government wants me to judge their behavior??? I have a hard enough time controlling my own behavior, for goodness sakes.

Wish me luck......................
