A Change of View Changes Everything

No, I am not finished organizing my office, stop bugging me.  It's not like I have all day to play around organizing my office, I have a bigtime job to do.  Oops, never mind.  If it makes you feel better, we did go out and buy wood glue to fix the arm of the side chair, so the project is still moving forward.

But that's not what I am here to talk about anyway.  Remember one of the reasons why I moved my desk in the first place?  To see the gorgeous nature view outside my office window instead of looking at a wall:

Well, now I look out my window and I see things differently.  There is constant movement of light and leaves.  There are birds that do this dance thing with their tails that I presume is a mating ritual but maybe he's just pooping, but it's cool to watch.  And it's pleasant and it stimulates the senses and the mind.  Which brings me to politics.

It seems that right now more than ever before, everyone is stuck looking at the world in the same way and they need to move their "stuff" around to be able to see things in a different light.  Seriously...................

I am in my little red box and you are comfy in your blue box.  WE are 99% right all the time on how to make this world a better place.  Everyone in the other colored box is nuts!  Everyone in my colored box is far superior.  WE throw crap into each others box and laugh when we have a good hit.  Well, I for one am sick of these childish games.  In fact, children wouldn't partake in such games of foolishness.

Today is as good a day as any to reach out and see the world in a different light.  Try not to be judgmental.  Try to see the good even when the bird or the friend is actually crapping on your patio!  At least poke a hole in your box and look outside at the other box and the world around you.  What's the first thing you'll notice?

That's right, they're all boxes......albeit a slightly different color.  Big deal.  Put the differences in perspective, for goodness sake.  Here's a simple thought that has come to my ever clear mind:

(long, empty nester-like pause, due to a complete lapse in thought due to staring out the window at the fluttering leaves!)

oh yeah, the differences really aren't that important in the grand scheme of things.  All humans in the little red or blue boxes want the same things in life: love and happiness and family and freedom.  Lots of ways to get there, but I am pretty sure we'll "get their faster" if we respect one another.  Peace. out............................

Longing for My Own Summer Internship

It's spring break and my daughter is home for a week of sunshine, friends and trying to figure out where to intern this summer.  Yes, hours of searching the web for a internship near a beach, far, far away from the blazing Arizona heat.  I am thinking for all my hours of hard work today that I should be able to do this internship with her, but I am pretty sure that's not apart of the plan.

I must say this is quite the process and we are late for most of the cool interships being offered to college students. I had no idea.  There are cover letters to be written, resumes to be filled out and statements of interest to be typed.  Some of the positions actually pay a very decent stipend...who knew?  At the end of the day, I couldn't help but think the world surely has gotten more complicated. Why, I remember packing all our worldly possessions after college final exams and heading to the beach...to find a cheap home that would accomodate 7 girls and find a job that didn't interupt party-going or sun-worshipping time.  In about 6 hours, we had a miserable/adorable house to rent for the summer and all 7 of us had jobs that would pay the bills and still have a little left over for the upcoming year.  Would we be out of luck in 2010?  Probably.

It would be extremely nice not to be here for the duration of the summer.  Believe me, it's miserable.  Dry and hot except between 5-7 am.  It's pretty tolerable during this 2-hour time period.  I think it might be funny to send out my bio, resume and interest statement, only maybe I'd have to fudge on the age information.  Who wants a 50-something, empty nester person cleaning the area for the sea turtles or other fun jobs being offered! No, I think I'll pull some picture from my college days and stick that in my profile for my summer internship.

Every year, I present the idea of leaving this Hell of a place and visit my sister in MD.  And every year I get the same lame/sane answers from Bill of how it would be difficult to conduct business away from town for so long.  But, I am going to keep trying.  I could use some clever ideas on how to get this accomplished, so give me some comments on what you would do in my shoes.

It's 10:16 am and the Main Reason I Cannot Get Things Done

I've been up since 5:30 am, walking Wrigley all over the newly-mowed golf course grass, answered all my emails, and now I am stuck in this weird zone that has captured me everyday for two weeks now.

The symptoms:

Spending at least fours hours glued to the computer "researching" resorts in the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico with no end or trip in sight;

Up at 1 am, channel surfing and ending up on shows like E! News with Ryan Seacrest until I fall back asleep around 3 am.

Exercising in slow motion. Seriously, you try it without completely cracking yourself up looking at the reaction from the other people around you exercising! It's the most fun I have all day. The elliptical machine is my favorite piece do my slow exercising.

The prognosis:

Last week, the Wall Street Journal wrote a story and listed blogs about the Empty Nest and I was not listed! Of course, why would I be? I have hardly written a word for six months much less something worthy of reading and posting in an article in the one paper I read cover to cover every damn day!

Still, it bothers me because when I started to write this blog, I wanted to be awe-inspiring, hilarious, worthy of mention in the WSJ! It makes me mad that I have not figured out how to work full-time (as needed) AND write interesting material on my blog, too. I'm so busy telling everyone about the Twilight Farmers Market or some other event that I am wiped out and instead turn to endless Googling/Binging or whatever for the best island getaway!

The treatment:

I am going to write something, no matter how disgusting or stupid it sounds, on my little empty-nester blog....hopefully everyday. I figure eventually, the words might string together nicely.

I am also going to start reading more blogs again, to get me in the mood. You know what I mean, don't you?

And I am going to pray that the WSJ adds my blog in a retraction piece, in a statement of omission! (That's http://emtnester.blogspot.com).

Candy Striper and Nurse Talk: No Action

While on my daily group dog walk, early this morning, we started to talk about nurses and how most men have had fantasies involving nurses. (Hey, it's early in the morning and the brain can take you to many different discussions when its cold and dark!). Then we all mentioned that as young girls we had either volunteered in hospitals, had considered nursing or simply had costumes of nurses from England that we loved as kids.

I remember how cute I thought the candy striper uniform was back in the 60's and 70's. We all thought we were hot shit wearing these outfits even though picking up bedpans and doing remedial hospital work was not the hottest thing to do.

No silly! That's not what the official uniform looked like. This is a Halloween costume designed by some male designer who 'saw' his creation from a reoccurring dream. This is one official candy striper uniform you can buy from an online auction for $59 bucks:

Pretty sexy stuff, I can really see how this could get a man's juices' flowing! Of course, I know it's not just the actual costume but what you do in it that makes this such a turn-on idea. "Hey baby, lift your bottom so I can remove your deposited urine...". Oh yeah, I know how to get it going, don't I?! Who said empty nesters aren't sexy human beings? And I know what you're thinking right now....that Bill's one helluva lucky guy!

I've probably said enough on this topic for now. (Don't want to spoil my love relationship I have going with Google and Google AdSense, so I won't show you or tell you about all the porn movies with nurses and cute little candy stripers doing naughty duties). You'll just have to do your own research.

Good night and happy dreaming!
