Candy Corn Addiction

Just because the kids are off at college and the nest is empty, that does not stop me from decorating my house from head to toe for Halloween. Who cares that no one will see each little table covered with fall leaves, pumpkins and scary ghosts. I am sure Husband Bill thinks I have lost my mind a bit and Wrigley thinks the cinnamon potpourri smells quite yummy. When you live in Arizona and the weather is still reaching 90+ degrees during the day, decorations are the only way you know to tell it is the Fall Season.

Perhaps the goofiest thing I have done is to fill this cute white ghost bowl with this very dangerous mix of candy corn in various shapes, jelly beans and sprinkled gumdrops. Bill has such great willpower and never touches candy. The dog wants to eat it, so I cannot leave the bowl on the table. It is now tucked up on a high shelf of the bookcase. So, it is my civic duty to eat the entire bowl of candy corn goodness ("waste not want not"). I cannot walk past the living room without indulging in some Halloween sugar! This has some serious ramifications!

Warning! Do not eat huge amounts of candy corn of else the following will occur:

1) Uncontrollable Urge to eat them all until you're sick to your stomach;

2) Future visit to the dentist;

3) Onset of massive headache approximately 25 minutes after you have indulged;

4) Discussions to yourself on all the reasons to buy more once the bowl is depleted;

5) (And this is the worst!) The smelliest gas you will ever experience.

I confess to you, my loyal readers of Emtnester, on this Saturday afternoon:

I, Beth Southworth, am addicted to candy corn. I have no control over this Halloween substance. I will find ways to purchase it and devour as much of it as I an find. I don't care if I overdose. It's the candy corn speaking!

Based on the gas issue, please control your addiction prior to the BNI meeting! ;0)

Hee-hee. I used to swipe my mom's pumpkin shaped candy corn and put it downstairs with all my Barbie stuff. They were the perfect size to pass as Barbie pumpkins. She thought I was eating them all along. For a while there she just kept buying me candy corn pumpkins and say "Go ahead, eat them, you used to love them when you were little".

I want to eat your gummy candies. I think it's great to decorate. You don't always have to do things for other people - your joy means a lot.

There are MANY candy corn addicts! What is it about that stuff? It really is addicting, so I've vowed to not buy any this year.

I've brought out the decorations, too, Beth. My standard ceramic pumpkins are on the kitchen table ... where they've been for 19 years.

I love decorating my house for every occasion, whether it's Halloween or my dog's birthday. My kids would always help me put up the decorations, but not this year. Surprisingly, I'm having a better time doing it by myself. I'm not in a rush to get it done, so my Halloween deorations look amazing. I have a little bowl of candy like you do. The bowl looks so cute filled up to the top. It was never full with the kids around, but now it is always full because i take one every time i wake upp andd go to bed.

I loved candy corn as a kid and would always overindulge. Once you're in the zone, you kind of have to! (I think it's a rule in the Candy Corn Lover's Guide) I haven't had it in years, but find myself craving it every fall. Your decorations are beautiful! Thanks for stopping by!

I swear I hate candy corn, but any time there's a package in the general vicinity I will polish it off completely. I was unaware of that little detail with the gas though...lol

But wait, candy corn is a veggie right? So they can't be bad for you. Please don't shatter the dream Beth...

I have now filled my crazy pumpkin head holder four times. This time I put truffles in it so hopefully I won't finish it again.

Glad to see I am not alone in the candy corn addiction. I've been addicted to this stuff since childhood. Usually try to hold off on buying it 'til the week before Halloween. Just bought a 12 oz. bag of Brach's Autumn Mix yesterday and it's almost gone!

PS...I am not aware of the gas thing either. Headache, yes, gas...No.

Candy corn is like the crack cocaine of the sugar world. Otherwise, it's okay.

It reminds me of my Christmas M&M addiction. Those tasty mint flavored ones you only get during the holiday season. I must confess dragging my family to Walgreens every year on 12/26 to stock up on the half price ones for the rest of the year...

Beth is one of those rare people that everytime you are around them or talk to them you learn something really important. You realize that this person is really fascinating! And so, after meeting with her and then reading her blog I only marvel at how much I have missed by not knowing her sooner!
