Treat Yourself Tuesday


What do you do when there are two different ways you want to treat yourself that conflict with each other? I'll do what most empty nest people would do...I think I'll flip a coin to decide!
Heads it's taking a Pilates class at Sommet Fitness; tails it's a venti caramel frappaccino at Starbucks. Both choices are sweet but in very different ways:
Pilates Class Sweetness:
Angella is the teacher/trainer and she makes you feel good and happy;
I want to lose weight and pilates really targets the places on my body that need help;
After the hour-long session, I feel calm and relaxed;
You get to listen to great tunes while you are working out;
Going to pilates on a regular basis is good for my overall health situation.
Starbucks Sweetness:
Very tasty, delicious caramel flavor;
Reminds me of the good ol' days when my daughter and me would go up together and enjoy this drink and its 600 calories (or whatever the count actually is);
Can bring my dog with me and sit on the patio.
Now you see my dilemma? In a perfect world, I'd go to my Pilates training session, pick up Wrigley and head over to Starbucks for a treat. But, then I'd never lose the weight I REALLY want to lose. Right now I am focused on myself for once, so....
HOPE IT'S HEADS!

The trick is finding another treat to substitute. Like maybe it's not a caramel frappacino at Starbucks, but maybe an iced coffee with a shot of caramel syrup to start out. Don't totally deprive yourself- life is TOO SHORT! Glad you have taken the high road to Pilates- You are on the right track and a pleasure to work with! See you hopefully sooner than later-

I naturally prefer the high energy group classes, taking a 3 mile jog, or busting my body during a boot camp class (also offered at Sommet Fitness). However, my knee has some trouble. My trainer is doing some stabilization exercises for my knee but has me doing Pilates also because Pilates prevents injury. In addition to increasing flexibility, Pilates exercises strengthen muscles on both the in and out movement. This improves muscle control, which prevents injuries that occur upon impact such as landing when jogging and doing aerobics exercise. So I agree with you that Pilates is a great mind-body exercise with benefits beyond having a great body.

Regular Pilates workouts will help ease the guilt - and other effects - of indulging in Starbucks. I am a HUGE fan of Sommet Fitness, BTW, and highly recommend them! I've taken a short hiatus, but am really eager to get back to my weekly Pilates training at Sommet . . . it's really hard to stay trim without it!
